extended pipelining, project specification, 14/10/2001 (c) 2001 Ondrej Jombik Basic description: ------------------ Extended pipelining is easy to use pipeline process (re)director. It has the main ability to run any number of subprocesses and redirect them basic filedescriptors. Basic filedescriptors are 0 (standart input), 1 (standart output) and 2 (standart errput). There is no restriction of pipe connection except that, process outputs (output, errput) must be bind with one or more processes input. Features: --------- It will features command line and config file process tree specification, fast data transfer, full subprocess control, subprocess run priority (nice), tty passing, and many others. Programming language: --------------------- ANSI C Destination platforms: ---------------------- Linux, but it should work also on UNIX based systems, such as FreeBSD, Solaris and others. License: -------- Ep will be free software; you can redistribute it and/or modify it under the terms of the GNU General Public License as published by the Free Software Foundation; either version 2 of the License, or (at your option) any later version. Special libraries: ------------------ Extended pipelining project contains one sub project libcfg. Libcfg standalone project for command line and config file parsing. Extended pipelining will use this project for two basic features (cmdline & cfg file parsing) implementation. But it will be developed without any dependency on described project. No other special dynamic or static library, except glibc, will be used for final project linking. Development plan: ----------------- PHASE 1: - libcfg specification with all features, TODO list - building stuff (Makefile, ./configure script) of libcfg - basic functionality of libcfg - project specification writing - main data types and structures - basic file structure - basic pure implementation without any special features PHASE 2: - libcfg improvements - libcfg documentation writing - libcfg freshmeat.net initial release - basic functionality - project kernel debugging - building stuff (Makefile, ./configure script) - some special features implementation (ie. subprocess run priority) - various improvements PHASE 3: - libcfg bug fixing - full libcfg functionality - various optimalizations (fast data transfer, etc) - documentation writing - starting building collection of example scripts - support files creating (in example ViM syntax file for config file) - bug fixing PHASE 4: - full project functionality - testing on others platforms - complete collection of example scripts - freshmeat.net release - bug fixing (noticed by users after release) Author & homepage: ------------------ Author is Ondrej Jombik Project homepage will be http://platon.sk/projects/ep/ You can download current version from kepler.fmph.uniba.sk CVS server or get snapshot from http://platon.sk/projects/ep/ This document was written by Ondrej Jombik in 14th October 2001.
