Every day, Aiden Lee travels around Taipei on two wheels like thousands of others.

But while most of the SLOTXO companions headed to the gas station to refuel. Instead, he brought electric motorcycles to an increasingly widespread battery exchange station in Taiwan. which the designer said The technology could help fuel vehicles that switch from fossil fuels to electricity.

Lee has been using Taiwanese startup Gogoro rechargeable batteries since 2015, making him one of the 450,000 members who change an average of 330,000 batteries each day. according to the information of the company

Lee said using the battery was about 10 percent more expensive than buying gasoline a month.

Gogoro is currently looking to expand its business in the region and in New York City. Now, there are more than 2,300 battery exchange stations across Taiwan outside convenience stores or along parking lots. In which the driver of an electric motorcycle or moped stops to exchange the depleted battery with a fresh one.

However, previous attempts to launch a battery swap business have shown frustration. especially for electric cars

Companies in China, the United States and Israel have struggled to provide easily accessible battery swap sites for electric vehicles. This is partly due to the high cost of building charging stations. And it takes more time to charge very large cells.

Horace Luke, founder and chief executive of Gogoro, said the technology could be better used for electric bikes. This is because batteries and stations don't have to be very large, that is, instead of building a four-wheeler infrastructure. Just create a station that looks like a vending machine at various locations.

Gogoro vice president Alan Pan said at a press conference last week: Currently, there are more battery exchange stations in Taiwan's four major cities than gas stations. And that the company's goal by 2022 is to have more such stations than gas stations across the island.

With more than 240 million battery exchange counts since 2015, Gogoro has reduced approximately 360,000 tons of CO2 in the air.

Luke told AFP in an interview that Gogoro was trying to rebuild the industry. that are sustainable and able to control global warming and climate change

Taiwan government data indicates that Electric motorcycle sales account for 21% of all motorcycles in Taiwan. where sales of traditional gasoline are declining every year.

Luke also said that Gogoro is expanding its market through local partners. to the world's largest motorcycle markets such as China, India and Indonesia. which is a country with smog-covered cities It has partnered with industry-leading companies including Hero MotoCorp in India, the world's largest motorcycle manufacturer, Chinese company Yadea. The world's leading electric bicycle manufacturer and Gojek, an Indonesian ride-hailing company.

China launched a battery exchange system in Hangzhou in October. There are plans to expand to other cities this year.
