MySQL 4.1 has changed the LIMIT clause so that it no longer
accepts negative arguments.
So the phpMyEditSetup.php recommended setting (v5.4 and earlier) of
opt['inc'] = -1 to list all records produces invalid SQL.
MySQL recommends using a large number instead.

Glad this is being changed in the CVS version,
however, fixing future versions is only part
of the problem.
Our group is faced with fixing all legacy scripts
if we want to upgrade to MySQL 4.1.
This is not really a phpMyEdit bug,
but rather a MySQL change that has negative
impact on phpMySQL users.
Recommendation: post your opinion on the MySQL
forums or mailing lists (you can refer to this
post and http://lists.mysql.com/mysql/181091
so you don't have to restate the problem).

just for the record, you have to configure your mysql 4.1 server with the "old-password" flag in order to be able to use the "old" PHP4/MySQL API.

I am using V5.4. I've amended lines around line 1870 as follows
$to = $this->fm + $this->inc;
if ($listall) {
$qparts['limit'] = $this->fm.',10000';
10000 suits the size of my tables. Reporter now works with default of '0' records per screen. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction everyone.
