As days abbreviate and the temperature drops individuals turn on heaters and electric lights and rest about the same number of hours as they do in summer. Not chickens. Their day by day plan is set by light. Lacking counterfeit light they sink into a taxing night's rest when sunset shows up and don't wake until tomorrow's first light. In high scopes they frequently rest 15 or 16 hours every night.
For chickens, winter is a time for rest, not reproduction. Cold temperatures don’t reduce laying, but as fall advances, decreasing daylight causes
egg production
to dwindle. That can create a problem for their owner.
Long dim evenings and winter occasions signal preparing season. Cakes, treats, goulashes, territory among the well known winter nourishments that require bunches of eggs at the season when hens are taking a break.
In any event, during December's dimness a solid rush of good layers once in a while totally quits laying, however creation is pitiful. Common late December sunshine at the scope of Chicago, New York, or Seattle is around nine hours, however chickens need 14 or 15 hours of light for high egg generation. There is a simple response for proprietors.
A solitary light reenacting June's day length will support creation. Frequently a similar light apparatus used to brood chicks serves well for winter lighting. Suspend it close to the coop roof and screw in a nine to 12 watt smaller fluorescent or LED bulb. Neither one of the types utilizes a lot of power however LED's work better in chilly climate. The light ought to be constrained by a clock set to enter early morning murkiness and switch off after first light. Nine hours of common sunshine expanded by a few predawn long stretches of fake light will keep hens laying throughout the winter preparing season.
