I'm fairly new to the phpMyEdit application, but it seems like the TABS mechanism, while useful, could be greatly improved upon.
What about assigning fields to "groups" that could be selected by links similar to the tabs links? The difference is that a field could appear in more than one group, instead of only under a single tab.
For example,

would create three tabs: Basic, Detail and Phonelist. Each tab would display only the fields containing that groupname: thus clicking "Basic" would list only the Name; PhoneList would show names and phone numbers and Detail would show everything. In View and Change screens, this would let you list any desired selection of fields, including having the same field appear on multiple screens.
It would be nice if such groups could also be applied to List and Filter screens; then users could select and filter on what they want to see.
